One ranking policeman who jumped to the aid of a partner that was assaulted by a blade-wielder was granted the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a blade to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Officer knifed," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and vehicle camera recording released by the agency depicted Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.
He collided with the officer who lost balance and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the pavement although being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a safe opportunity, concluding the confrontation to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and more injuries to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his partner's hemorrhaging before medical personnel came.
The latest recognition arrives after the three officers were granted departmental Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional union branch in early 2024.
They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in mid-2024.
"The actions of the entire team in the end protected each other and resulted in no bystanders experienced any injuries."
Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, per officials.
