A chopper flying above a popular coastal coastline abruptly started spinning uncontrollably, finally descending rapidly and smashing into a cluster of palm fronds as onlookers watched.
Recordings posted on social media show the chopper beginning to twirl above Huntington Beach then descending near the edge of the beach, where it ends up lodged between palms and a staircase adjacent to the Pacific Coast highway.
Emergency responders said five people were taken to hospital involving two individuals who were in the chopper and were “safely pulled from the wreckage” subsequent to the crash on Saturday.
Three individuals on the road were injured. Information on their wounds were not yet released.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation.
Officials said the helicopter was associated with an regular “Cars with Copters” fundraising event scheduled for Sunday.
