Brave Train Employee Suffers Critical Injuries Amid Mass Knife Incident on Express Service

A valiant train staff member who intervened to protect travelers during a mass stabbing attack on a express train has sustained critical injuries, authorities stated on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

CCTV footage allegedly shows the employee attempting to halt the attacker as the train traveled between Peterborough and Huntingdon in the county. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied victims fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in detention for questioning. Authorities declared a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Crisis Response and Consequences

The incident on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several individuals have now been released from hospital.

A witness recorded the suspect brandishing a large knife and being shot with a stun device as he faced officers on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – especially the courageous member of train personnel whose family are being assisted by trained personnel,” said a senior police officer.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Measures

Rail associations were swift to praise staff and demand more action. One labor leader stated he would be “seeking immediate meetings with government, train companies and police to ensure that we have the best possible assistance, resources and robust protocols in operation”.

Another association representative urged the rail company and authorities “to act quickly to examine security, to support the affected workers, and to make sure nothing like this happens again”.

Driver Praised for Quick Action

The train driver who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been commended by union officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“The driver didn’t stop the train in the center of two stations where it’s clearly difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” stated a association official.

Additional Information

Police stated they got the first distress calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An observer recounted initially wondering if the situation was a Halloween prank, but soon realized from people's expressions that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is nothing to suggest the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the community to provide with any further details.

Train operations on the impacted route are expected to experience disruption until the following day, with passengers advised to defer their journeys where feasible.

Individuals with information that could assist the inquiry are asked to reach authorities by texting a designated number with a reference code.
